World Cruise 2013

Today the ship arrived in Phuket, Thailand at 7 AM. Phuket
is Thailand’s largest, most populous and most visited island. Thailand’s only
island province revolves around and thrives on tourism, but still retains a
spark of the real Thailand. I found the island with many building not in the
shape that you find in other countries but for the most part the country was
clean.
At 7:30 AM, I went on a tour called “The Best of Phuket”.
We left the ship and our first
stop was to view the seas and Phuket’s coastline from Promthep Cape. Our next
stop was at Wat Chalong, the island’s most famous temple. This was not a old
temple and at least some of it was build in the 1990’s. The funds to build this
temple comes from the local people and it amazes me that people spend large
amounts of money to build these amazing temples around the world and yet they
live in substandard housing. Of course this also happened in Europe when the
Christians built their cathedrals.
We then had a visit to the Phuket Orchid Garden & Thai
Village for a fabulous show of cultural dance and customs. We then made our way
to a restaurant for a traditional Thai lunch. We were back to the ship by 1:45
PM and the ship left for Sri Lanka at 4 PM.
