World Cruise 2013

Today the ship arrived at 8 AM in Hong Kong. The ship was
docked at Victoria Harbor in Kowloon across the harbor is Hong Kong Island. I
left on a tour called “Magnificent Macau”. To get to Macau you must ride a fast
ferry for 60 minutes. We started by boarding a bus to the ferry terminal.
Since we were leaving Hong Kong we had to go thru immigration and get out
passport stamped that we were leaving Hong Kong. We boarded the ferry and we
arrived in Macau. The island of Macau was colonized by Portugal for 300 hears,
but reverted to Chinese rule in 1999 and is known as “the Monte Carlo of the Far
East” for its annual Formula 3 Grand Prix race through the streets. The
territory is an intriguing blends of cultures—unmistakably Asian, but none the
less draped in a cloak of Portuguese finery and senescent Mediterranean charm.
Macau has many casinos and the casino revenue today is greater than Las Vegas.
When the ferry arrived in Macau we had to go thru customs and we got on a bus
for our tour of Macau. Out first stop was at the Porto do Cerco gate which
marks the old border between Portugal and China. Our next stop was a visit to
the ruins of St. Paul’s. St. Paul’s was a 17
th century church built
by Italian and Japanese Jesuit priests, was were destroyed by fire many years
ago. Our next stop was at Macau Tower, the 1oth highest freestanding tower in
the world. The tower has a revolving restaurant and it was here that we had
lunch and also a great view of the city. After lunch we drove by a Buddhist
temple but did not stop because we did not have enough time. We drove by many
of the newer building in Macau including hotels and casinos and we left to go to
the ferry terminal. We again had to go thru customs and after we arrived back
at the ferry terminal in Hong Kong we had to go thru immigration into Hong
Kong. We got back to the ship at 6:30 PM.
