World Cruise 2013

Today the ship arrived in Porto Malai, Langkawi, Malaysia.
Langkawi is the main island of the Langkawi group located in the Strait of
Malacca, Peninsular (West) Malaysia. Langkawi is 18 miles long and 10 miles
wide. Though most of its inhabitants are engaged in fishing, the island is also
intensively cultivated with coconuts and rubber plantations.
Today I took a tour called “Langkawi Overview”. Our first
stop was at the Atma Alam Batik Art Village where we were given a demo of Batik
Art and visited the show room, art gallery and handicraft section. We visited
another Museum and stopped at a functioning rubber estate for a close-up view of
the process known as rubber tapping. The professional rubber tapper showed us
how to make a skillful cut to make the rubber tree bleed. Our last stop before
returning to the ship was at Eagle Square where we saw a monumental sculpture of
an Eagle facing the seafront.
