Day 17 - Easter Island, Chile

World Cruise 2013
January 21, 2013

Today the ship arrived at its anchor position near Easter Island at 8:12 AM.  Today I had a tour called "Mystical Moai Statues & Highlights" scheduled in the afternoon.  Several tenders left the ship for the shore in the morning and at about 11 AM, the captain told us over the speaker that the sea conditions were too bad and that all transits to the island are suspended and that they would now work on getting are the people of the land back to the ship.  This became a long process and the ship did not get underway until 7 PM, 1 1/2 hours behind schedule.

I wish I could have got to shore but looking at the sea and talking to some of the people who were on the tenders coming back, it was a good thing that I stayed on the ship.  During this adventure, three tenders had some damage and on at least one ride, water came into the tender.

I did take some pictures of Easter Island from the ship and below are some of these pictures.
