World Cruise 2013

Today the ship arrived at Kangaroo Island. The ship was
docked outside the town of Penneshaw. Penneshaw with a population of 1,500 is
on the eastern part of the island where most of the people live and the western
part is forest. The center of the island is sheep country. The island has a
wide range of terrains, from gentle sandy beaches to pounding surf and offers
many amazing opportunities for nature lovers, with seals, sea lions, penguins,
koalas and kangaroos all living here in abundance. Because of the
transportation cost, no dairy cattle are on the island.
At 7:30 AM I got on the tender to go to Penneshaw for my tour
called “A Taste of Kangaroo Island”. We left the city and stopped at the
“Clifford’ Honey Farm” where the owner talked about his bees and showed us the
equipment he uses to extract the honey. He also has a store where you could buy
his product and other things.
Our next stop was at a place, which takes eucalyptus leaves,
distills the oil from the leaves and makes several different products.
Our next stop was at “Island Pure Sheep Dairy”. They milk sheep and make a range of high quality Mediterranean-style cheeses and yogurt.
Of course you can also buy their product.
The tour was finished at 12 PM and I walked around the area
and got on the tender and went back to the ship.
On Kangaroo Island there is no bus service, 3 police for the
whole island, and the people leave the keys in their card and they do not lock
their cars or their houses. To get to the mainland there is a ferry that runs
between Penneshaw and Adelaide.
