Devil's Island is three islands called Ile du Diable (Devil's Island), Ile Royale, and Ile Ste-Joseph (St. Joseph). The ship was anchored off the shore of Ile du Diable.
There were no tours for this island. Devil’s Island has a dark and intriguing
history. The Devil's Islands are located off the coast of French Guiana and was part of the notorious
French penal colony until 1952.
At about 9 AM, I took the tender over to the Ile Royale island and
walked up the path to the old prison, which included many stone steps and stone
lined pathways. At the top I took some pictures and sat in the refreshment and
souvenir area with some people that I know from the ship. At noon I left and
walked down the steps and walkways to the tender location and returned to the
ship.
