World Cruise 2013

At 7:18 AM the ship arrived at Tauranga, New Zealand. Tauranga is located on the western part of the Bay of Plenty, and extends from Katikati and Waihi Beach to Papamoa and Te Puke on the coast and south to the Kaimai ranges. Captain Cook sailed into the Bay of Plenty on the Endeavor in October 1769, fiving it its name. I took a tour called "Fascinating Rotorua".
Rotorua is an active Volcanic area. Nearly everything is steaming or gurgling. More than just a natural theme park, Rotorua is the Maori heartbeat. The Arawa people settled in Rotorua soon after they landed in the Bay of Plenty in the 8th century.
We left the ship on a 1 1/2 hour drive to Rotorua and a visit to the Te Puia Maori Cultural Center. We had a traditional Maori Cultural performance before a visit to the thermal reserve to see the boiling mud pools and the geyser which erupts several times a day. We had lunch at the site and after lunch we had a short drive to the Agrodome where we had a traditional New Zealand Sheep Show. The show talked about the sheep, beef and dairy industry and its importance to New Zealand. After the show we returned to Tauranga and the ship.
