Day 4 - Cartagena, Colombia

World Cruise 2013
Jan 6, 2013

Today the ship arrived in Cartagena, Colombia at 7 AM.  The city was founded in 1533.  Today Cartagena is the fifth largest city in Colombia with 850,000 inhabitants.
I took a tour called “Cartagena City Highlights”.  This tour left at 8 AM and we saw some of the residential areas with aging mansions that have been restored.  We made a stop at the Fort of San Felipe de Barajas, from the 17th-century.  Our next stop was the Cathedral built in 1537 and the Church of San Pedro Claver.  To get to the Cathedral we walked by many old buildings dating back to the 17Th century.

We also drove thru “new” town and made two shopping stops.  We got back to the ship a little before 12PM.

Cartagena is a nice old town with many new buildings.  Most of its streets are narrow so you see mostly mini-busses.  For the most part the old buildings are kept up and the town is also clean.
The ship left Cartagena, Colombia at 1 PM in order to get to the Panama Canal.
