World Cruise 2013

The ship spent the night in the harbor at Singapore and at
7:45 AM I left on a tour called “Around the Island”. We left the ship and our
first stop was the Tiong Bahru Market to see the locals buy their daily
groceries and vegetables. Several countries have these types of markets but
this one was inside a building, which the others that I have been to were
outside. Singapore has no farms and all food except fish has to be imported.
This place also had several small fast food places where they sold local food.
We next visited the Kranji Dam area where the Japanese made
their first landing during WW II. We stopped at the Kranji War Memorial, which
is the final resting place for many of the allied soldiers who lost their lives
in World War II.
Our next stop was at a Buddhist Temple at Bright Hill, which
is a famous place of Chinese ancestral worship. We did not go into the temple
because a service was taking place. I did get a good picture of a Buddha taken
from the doorway. We then had an early lunch at a place called “Peach Garden”
which served Chinese food.
We drove by the Changi Prisoner of War Camp and stopped at
the Changi Chapel & Museum to see a replica of the chapel used by POW’s
during World War II. We then returned to the ship and I took some pictures from
the ship of Singapore. The ship did not leave until 11 PM so I did not get to
see the Singapore Harbor on the way to the sea.
